The Tea Rebels Way
Our story began in 1920 in the mountain region of Poland, when Halina Gąsienica, respected medicine woman and great grandmother of our current owner, opened a local herbal shop. Her remedies, made from herbs and other natural products gathered from the surrounding environment by her daughter, were famous for treating even the illnesses and injuries widely considered fatal at the time.
Family tradition was continued by Halina’s daughter Maria. She made delicious fruit and linden teas appreciated not only in the local region but also throughout the whole Poland and surrounding countries. Her shop was crowded with writers, poets and artists and her infusions were served during the diplomatic, government and military receptions.
One of the officials who literally fell in love with Maria’s teas was her husband to be Jan Porębski – young and handsome officer widely known for his outstanding courage and extravagant style. They made perfect couple with Maria – rebel by nature, wearing miniskirts and pressing for redefinition of the traditional status and role of a woman within the conservative society.
Unfortunately, their great love was torn apart by Second World War. Maria’s shop was destroyed, Jan never came back home from military service, and their daughter Janina – named after her father who she never met – was born.
Maria found rescue for her and her little daughter in a small town in the borderland of Germany and Poland. Soon enough they opened a local coffee and tea shop. But now Maria’s coffees and teas tasted different than before. Maybe because of her grief for her late husband and maybe because of her maturity and wisdom – her teas and coffees begun to taste deep and sophisticated, smelled of sunset and unfulfilled love. Interestingly, Maria and Janina’s mixtures stretched far beyond traditional infusions and into the realm of spirituality and harmony.
Time went by and they struggled to get by. Janina’s daughter Magdalena was born and with her the idea of TEA REBELS – to deliver intensive tea and coffee sensations for all rebels in heart looking for new tastes, flavors and experiences. Not only in the local circle of family cafeteria but also in the most distant parts of the world.
Now Magdalena, our owner and chief operating officer, fourth-generation rebel by nature and tea and coffee enthusiast, continues almost 100 years of family tradition in the tea and coffee industry. Thanks to countless number of unique recipes and constant aiming for perfection, TEA REBELS has become the number one choice for sophisticated coffees and teas. Our products are present in all major retail chains in Europe and are appreciated by hundreds of tea and coffee lovers throughout the world.
